An Alaska landscape architect seal must show your registered name, your registration number in numerals only, the State of Alaska legend and the title Registered Professional Landscape Architect, plus a space inside it for your signature. The date goes inside the seal or no more than two inches from it. No size is stated. This page covers design, signing, electronic seals, documents and expiration.

Which items go on an Alaska landscape architect seal?
Six: your name in its registered form, your registration number, the State of Alaska legend, the title Registered Professional Landscape Architect, room inside the seal for your signature, and a date placed in the seal or up to two inches from it.
The number is written in numerals alone, so any letters that accompany your number elsewhere stay off the seal. For a companion read, see our overview of Alaska landscape architect stamp and seal requirements.

What size should an Alaska seal be?
No size is stated. 12 AAC 36.180 fixes the seal by an illustration and gives no diameter, no tolerance and no measurement for an inner circle. The picture controls the design; the dimensions are left open.
Pick a size that keeps the long title legible and leaves a signature space you can actually sign in. Our explainer on the Alaska landscape architect seal adds background.
Can the Alaska seal be electronic?
Yes. The seal rule, 12 AAC 36.180, lets you use the board's pictured design or an electronic or digital rendering that is substantially similar to it. That wording expressly authorizes an electronic seal.
On paper, AS 08.48.221(a) has you stamp documents with the seal. For the physical device, see our post on the Alaska landscape architect stamp.

How do you sign and date an Alaska seal?
You sign the seal itself. AS 08.48.221(a) requires you to apply the seal to the documents and then sign the seal, and the board's artwork carries an interior caption reading Affix Original Signature.
The date belongs in the seal or no more than two inches from it. Leave clear space around the impression in your title block so the date has somewhere to go if it does not fit inside.
What must an Alaska digital signature do?
It has to pass four tests under 12 AAC 36.180 and 36.185(f)(2). It belongs to you alone, it can be verified, it stays under your exclusive control, and it is bound to the document in a way that any later edit invalidates it.
Check each test against the signing software you plan to use. A tool that leaves a signature intact after the file is edited fails the last one.
What work may you put your Alaska seal on?
A limited set. Under 12 AAC 36.185(a)(3), you seal final drawings, reports and surveys, plus required construction documents, and only those you are qualified to prepare and take responsibility for.
On a set with several professionals, each registrant seals only the portion within his or her own direct professional knowledge and under his or her direct supervisory control. Related reading: our guide to Alaska landscape architect stamp and seal regulations.
When does an Alaska registrant have to stop sealing?
When the certificate expires. AS 08.48.221(a) bars you from affixing a seal and signature after expiration, or allowing someone else to, and bars using them to help another person get around the chapter.
Renewing is governed by AS 08.48.231 together with AS 08.01.100, so keep your certificate current before a set goes out. See also our post on Alaska stamp and seal guidelines for landscape architects.
What should you send with an Alaska seal order?
Your registered name, your registration number in numerals only, and the size you want, since the rules leave size to you. Tell us the device you want; the layout itself is the one pictured in 12 AAC 36.180.
If your license number is usually shown with letters, send only the digits so the seal matches the rule from the start.
How do you test an Alaska impression?
Stamp a sample and set it beside the illustration in 12 AAC 36.180. Confirm the State of Alaska legend, your name, the numerals-only number, the full title and the signature space are all present and readable.
Then sign inside the seal on the sample and add a date inside it or within two inches, and make sure both hold up on a copy.

Frequently asked questions
My license number includes letters. Do they go on the seal?
No. The number on the seal is limited to numeric characters, so the letters are dropped and only the digits appear.
Can the date sit next to the seal instead of inside it?
Yes, within limits. The date may go inside the seal or anywhere within two inches of it, so a date just outside the impression is fine if it is inside that distance.
Does the seal have to be a particular shape?
The rules state no shape or size. The design is fixed by the picture in 12 AAC 36.180, so match that illustration rather than a measurement.
Can I seal preliminary drawings?
Under 12 AAC 36.185(a)(3), sealing is confined to final drawings, reports and surveys and to required construction documents, so a preliminary drawing sits outside that list.
Two of us designed parts of one set. Who seals what?
Each of you seals only the part within your own direct professional knowledge and under your direct supervisory control, not the whole set.
When your details are ready, order from our Alaska stamps and seals collection and send your registration number in numerals only.
