A Kentucky landscape architect seal is a 2 inch circle with State of Kentucky across the top, Licensed Landscape Architect across the bottom, and your name and license number running straight across the middle. Section 2 of the regulation allows an embosser, a rubber stamp or an electronically generated seal. This page covers devices, electronic conditions and the regulation's gaps.

What must a Kentucky landscape architect seal show?
Four elements, fixed by 201 Ky. Admin. Regs. 10:070 Section 1. The words State of Kentucky run along the top edge and Licensed Landscape Architect along the bottom, while the center holds your name with your license number on the line below it.
Both legends are set wording, so order them exactly as the regulation gives them. Take the name and number from your Kentucky license. For a broader list of what to do and avoid, see our Kentucky landscape architect stamp dos and don'ts.
How are the name and number arranged?
Horizontally. Section 1 runs your name in a straight line through the middle of the circle, and the license number gets its own straight line underneath, instead of either one curving around the border where the two legends sit.
That arrangement puts your personal details in the widest part of the circle. Check that a long name still reads cleanly across the field at 2 inches before you approve the proof.

How big is the seal?
A circle 2 inches across, per 201 Ky. Admin. Regs. 10:070 Section 1. The regulation states one figure, not a range, so the die should be cut to exactly 2 inches rather than to a size you pick.
A fixed size means every Kentucky landscape architect seal appears at the same scale on a sheet. Our guide to finding the right Kentucky landscape architect seal size has more on the size question.
Which devices does Kentucky allow?
Three forms, named in 201 Ky. Admin. Regs. 10:070 Section 2: a personal embosser, a rubber stamp or an electronically generated image of the seal. The electronic form comes with extra conditions, covered in the next section.
For paper sets, a 2 inch rubber stamp is the straightforward choice. For raised impressions, see our comparison of Kentucky landscape architect seal embossing choices.

What does Kentucky require of an electronically generated seal?
It must satisfy six conditions set out in Section 2. Kentucky gives landscape architects a complete electronic seal standard in that section. This page does not list the six, so read them in Section 2 itself before you set up digital sealing.
Build the electronic image from the same artwork as your physical seal so the legends, name and number match. Then work through the six conditions one by one with whoever supports your document software.
Do you need to sign and date beside the seal?
The seal regulation is silent. 201 KAR 10:070 covers the seal's content and its permitted forms only; it does not call for a signature or a date, and it does not say where either would go.
Treat that as silence, not permission: the regulation neither requires a signature nor rules one out. Leaving space beside the seal in your title block costs nothing and keeps the option open.
Which documents must carry the seal?
201 KAR 10:070 does not list any. The regulation describes the seal and the forms it may take, and it stops there, with no schedule of documents that must bear the impression.
So the regulation gives you the device, not a rule for where to use it. When you do seal a document under your Kentucky license, the 2 inch seal described above is the one to apply.
What happens to the seal if your license lapses?
On lapse, 201 KAR 10:070 is silent. It does not tell you whether you may seal while your license is expired, suspended or revoked, whether reinstatement brings a new license number, or whether you must hand in the device.
Because the regulation leaves those questions open, the dependable course is to keep your license current. That way none of them ever touches the seal on your desk.
What should you supply when ordering?
Your name and license number exactly as licensed, plus the device: embosser, rubber stamp, electronic file or a combination. The legends and the 2 inch circle are fixed by Section 1, so they need no input from you.
If you add an electronic seal, have the six Section 2 conditions in front of you when you set it up. Our overview of Kentucky landscape architect stamp and seal requirements is a useful companion read.
How do you check the seal before first use?
Stamp a test sheet and confirm four things: State of Kentucky along the top, Licensed Landscape Architect along the bottom, your name running horizontally and your number directly beneath it. Then measure the impression at 2 inches across.
Read the name and number character by character against your license. A transposed digit in a license number is easy to miss on a small proof and hard to explain on a sealed drawing.
Kentucky geologists seal under a separate rule; see the Kentucky geologist seal and stamp requirements.

Frequently asked questions
Is a 1 3/4 inch seal acceptable in Kentucky?
No. 201 Ky. Admin. Regs. 10:070 Section 1 states a single size of 2 inches, with no range that would take in a smaller seal.
Can I rely on an electronically generated seal alone?
It is one of the three permitted forms, so yes, provided it meets the six conditions in 201 Ky. Admin. Regs. 10:070 Section 2. A rubber stamp remains the simpler option for paper sets.
Should the seal show an expiration date?
No date is among the four elements in Section 1. The seal carries the two legends, your name and your license number.
Do Kentucky architects follow the same electronic seal rules?
No. The electronic seal standard in Section 2 belongs to landscape architects, and Kentucky gives its architects no equivalent.
Can I use a different bottom legend, such as Registered Landscape Architect?
Section 1 sets Licensed Landscape Architect as the bottom legend, so order that wording as written rather than a variant.
With your license in hand, order a Kentucky landscape architect seal cut to the 2 inch circle and the Section 1 wording.
