Licensing in the Wild West: Wyoming Landscape Architect Requirements Feature Image

A Wyoming landscape architect seal must carry the legend LICENSED LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT-STATE OF WYOMING, your licensed name, your license number and the printed word Date:, on a face 1.5 to 2 inches in diameter. An embosser, a rubber stamp or a digital image all qualify. Each original imprint needs your own signature and signing date across it. Below: content, placement, formats, size and ordering.

What must a Wyoming landscape architect seal show?

Four items, all set by Chapter 9, Section 2(a) of the Board's rules. The fixed text is the legend LICENSED LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT-STATE OF WYOMING plus the label Date:, and the personal lines are your licensed name and your license number.

The legend should be reproduced character for character, capitals and hyphen included, and the name and number should be copied from your license rather than typed from memory. The word Date: is printed text on the die itself.

For another walk through the same elements, see our overview of the Wyoming professional landscape architect seal.

Which documents get sealed, and where does the seal go?

Every technical submission. Chapter 9, Section 3(a) requires it on every final drawing and every final design, on a specification set's cover, title or index pages, and, for any other technical submission, on its cover or index page.

The placement differs by document type, so plan it when you assemble a package. Final drawings are sealed individually. A specification set carries the seal on its cover, title or index pages, and anything else you submit carries it on the cover or index page.

Our article on Wyoming landscape architect regulations places these sealing duties alongside the rest of the practice rules.

How do you sign and date a sealed Wyoming document?

By hand, on top of the impression. Chapter 9, Section 3(b) requires the original signature of the licensee named on the seal to run across the face of every original imprint, together with the date of signing. Place the signature over the imprint, not beside it.

The signer is always the licensee whose name and number the seal carries. Since the die already prints the word Date:, the seal and the signing date travel together on every original you issue.

Practically, that means an impression you can write across. Test your usual pen on a trial imprint so the signature stays readable where it crosses the legend.

Which seal formats does Wyoming accept?

Three. Chapter 9, Section 2(b) allows the seal to take the form of an embosser, a rubber stamp or a digital image, and each is a lawful way to apply it. Whichever you choose, the same four items and the same diameter limits apply.

An inked stamp gives a flat, dark impression that is easy to sign across and copies cleanly. An embossed impression is raised, so try signing across one before you commit to it for original drawings. Our note on the Wyoming landscape architect stamp looks at the inked option in more detail.

How large can a Wyoming landscape architect seal be?

Between 1.5 and 2 inches in diameter, under Chapter 9, Section 2(a). The rule gives a floor and a ceiling rather than one fixed dimension, so any diameter inside that band complies and the exact figure is your choice.

The rule states the limit only as a diameter and does not describe a shape in words. The legend is the longest line, so a diameter toward the top of the band leaves more room for type that stays legible under a signature.

Can a Wyoming landscape architect use a digital seal?

Yes. The rules list a digital image among the three accepted formats, and Chapter 9, Section 3(b) accepts digital seals and digital signatures. The rule assigns the licensee responsibility for adequate security and does not require any particular technology or software.

With no method prescribed, the security choices are yours, and so is the accountability. Keep the image file under your own control and release digitally sealed documents only through channels you trust, since the rule places that duty on you.

What does the seal chapter say about a lapsed or expired license?

Nothing. Chapter 9, the chapter that sets the seal rules, does not address renewal, expiration or lapse. Those subjects are cited to Chapter 8 of the Board's rules, so the seal provisions give no answer on using the seal after a lapse.

This page therefore states no rule on that point. If your license status changes, read Chapter 8 itself before you apply the seal to anything new.

What should you have ready when you order?

Your name exactly as licensed, your license number, a diameter between 1.5 and 2 inches, and the format you want: rubber stamp, embosser or digital image. The legend and the word Date: are fixed, so you only confirm them on the proof.

If you plan to use more than one format, order each with identical wording so every document you issue shows the same seal. Our page of Wyoming landscape architect seal products lists the devices built for this license.

How do you check a new seal before sealing originals?

Make a trial impression and read it against your license. Confirm the name and number match, the legend reads LICENSED LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT-STATE OF WYOMING letter for letter, the word Date: appears, and the diameter measures from 1.5 to 2 inches.

Then sign and date across the trial imprint the way Section 3(b) describes. If the signature disappears into the impression, change the pen or the ink before the seal goes on a final drawing.

Frequently asked questions

Does the seal have to be round?

Section 2(a) sets the size as a diameter of 1.5 to 2 inches and says nothing further about shape. The diameter band is the measurable test the seal has to pass.

Can someone in my office sign across the seal for me?

No. Section 3(b) requires an original signature from the person whose name the seal carries. The licensee shown on the face signs and dates each original imprint personally.

Is an embosser acceptable by itself?

Yes. Section 2(b) lists the embosser as one of three permitted formats, alongside a rubber stamp and a digital image. Your signature and signing date still have to cross the face of each original imprint, whichever device made it.

Is a date engraved on the seal?

No particular date is among the required content. The seal carries the word Date: as one of its four elements, and the date of signing is added each time you sign an original imprint.

Does the seal need an expiration date or a firm name?

Neither is among the four elements Section 2(a) requires. The listed content is the landscape architect legend, the label Date:, your licensed name and your license number.
