What size and shape must the seal be?
Maine prescribes neither. No diameter, minimum or shape appears in the provisions read, so the size of a Maine landscape architect seal is a practical choice rather than a regulated one.

Section 225 does not name one. It refers to stamping technical submissions with the seal and leaves the device open, so an inked stamp, an embosser or both can serve.
The board's rule at 02-288 C.M.R. ch. 18 s. 3 envisions seals appearing in reproduced form on electronic documents, which favors an impression that scans cleanly. An inked stamp gives a mark that shows on a scan. An embossed impression without ink may not, so test it before relying on it alone. Do you have to sign and date next to the Maine seal?
The seal section does not say so. 32 M.R.S. § 225 requires the seal but is silent on a signature, a date and where any of them are placed on the sheet.

What happens when your license expires or is revoked?
The seal stops being usable. Under 32 M.R.S. §§ 218, 225, stamping or sealing any document with the seal is unlawful once the license the seal names has expired or been revoked, until that license is renewed or reissued.
The bar follows the license, not the device. A seal in good condition is still off limits during a lapse, and becomes usable again only when the license is renewed or reissued.
What should you send with a Maine order?

How should you check the impression before use?
Stamp a test sheet, then scan or copy it and read the result. Your name, every digit of your license number and both arc legends should be clear on the copy as well as the original.
Because the board's rule looks at seals reproduced on electronic documents, a scan is the most useful test. If fine lettering breaks up in the scan, move to a larger size or an inked device.

Does the seal have to show my license number?

Can I add my firm name?
