What size is a Tennessee landscape architect seal?
The rule does not give one. Rule 0120-02-.08(1) presents the seal as three drawings, one each for engineers, architects and landscape architects, and it puts no number on the diameter, the tolerance or an inner ring.

Which seal types does rule 0120-02-.08(8)(a) accept?
Four: embossed, rubber stamp, electronically generated and transparent self-adhesive seals. Each is allowed subject to the rest of the rule, so the signing requirements below apply whichever type you use.

How do you sign and date a Tennessee seal?
Write your signature and the date of signing over the face of the seal so the signature carries beyond its outer circle. A rubber signature stamp does not count; the rule wants your own signature.
Plan the placement before you stamp. The seal needs open space around it on the sheet, because part of the signature lands outside the circumference. A seal pressed tight against a border or title block text leaves nowhere for that overrun to go.

For drawings, the count is per sheet. For specifications, calculations and reports, the seal goes on the cover or index page, which is why that page should clearly list the pages it covers.
Can a Tennessee landscape architect use an electronic seal?
Yes. Electronically generated seals are one of the four permitted types, and the rule governs them through criteria rather than a named product, so no particular software is required to use one.

Can a seal be used after the certificate expires?
No. When the registrant named on a seal has a certificate that has expired or been revoked, no one may lawfully stamp or seal a document with that seal. Tennessee ties sealing to the life of the certificate.

Frequently asked questions
Can my seal say Licensed or Professional Landscape Architect?
The statute names Registered Landscape Architect. A die with a different title does not match the statutory wording, so order the title exactly as the statute gives it.
Can I have my seal made from the architect diagram?
The rule prints separate drawings: (a) for engineers, (b) for architects and (c) for landscape architects. Use diagram (c); a relabeled architect drawing is not the one the rule assigns to you.
Does a transparent self-adhesive seal still need a signature across it?
Yes. Each seal type is permitted subject to the rest of the rule, and the rule calls for the signature and date across the face and past the circumference on the documents it lists.
Does the signature have to cross the seal on every sealed sheet?
Yes. The signing requirement applies to the documents that must be sealed, so each original drawing sheet, and each cover or index page that carries the seal, gets its own signature and date across the impression.
If my certificate is revoked, must I return or destroy the device?
The statute's bar is on stamping or sealing with it. The sources cited here say nothing about returning or destroying the device itself, so this page does not state a rule on that point.
