What wording does a Kansas land surveyor seal carry?
Six things, all set by Kan. Admin. Regs. 66-6-1(a): two concentric circles, your name as your license shows it, your license certificate number, the words LICENSED and KANSAS, and PROFESSIONAL SURVEYOR in the lower ring.
Read the legend closely. It is two words, PROFESSIONAL SURVEYOR, and LAND is not one of them, so a die with a longer legend does not match the regulation. How large is the Kansas seal?
The regulation gives exact figures. The outer circle measures 1 5/8 inches in diameter and the inner circle 1 1/16 inches. The seal is circular, and the text states a single size for each ring rather than a range.

Why do Kansas surveyors sign across the seal instead of beside it?
Because Kan. Admin. Regs. 66-6-1(b)(1) requires you to sign and date across the seal. The signature may be handwritten or an authenticated digital signature, and either way it crosses the impression instead of sitting next to it.
This shapes your title block. Keep the seal clear of other text and border lines so a signature and date written over it stay readable, and make sure the ink you sign with shows up against the printed rings.
Can you use a rubber stamp, an embosser or a digital seal in Kansas?
All three. Kan. Admin. Regs. 66-6-1(a) lists a rubber stamp, an embossed seal and a digital seal as acceptable forms. The design and dimension rules above apply to whichever form you choose.

Which Kansas documents require the seal?
Each document you issue. Under Kan. Admin. Regs. 66-6-1(c), (d), (e), that includes drawings, technical reports, records, papers and original land descriptions written for conveying an interest in real property. The last category reaches descriptions some surveyors handle as ordinary correspondence.
A legal description written for a conveyance is therefore sealed work, whatever form it travels in. Treat it the same way you treat a plat: seal, signature and date, with the signature and date across the impression.
What does Kansas require of a digital signature?
Under Kan. Admin. Regs. 66-6-1(b)(3), (4), a digital signature must be unique to you, verifiable, kept under your sole control and tied to the document in a way that makes any alteration invalidate it.

What happens if a Kansas license expires or is revoked?
Stamping becomes unlawful. Kan. Stat. Ann. § 74-7023(d) prohibits sealing with a license that has expired or been revoked, so the device has to stay out of use while your license is in either state.
Put your renewal date on the calendar well ahead of time. A lapse stops sealing on every open job at once, not just on the next plat.
What should you send when ordering a Kansas seal?
Your name exactly as it appears on your license and your license certificate number. The remaining text, LICENSED, KANSAS and PROFESSIONAL SURVEYOR, and the two ring sizes come from the regulation, so none of them is a choice.

How do you check a Kansas impression before using it?
Measure it. The outer ring should read 1 5/8 inches and the inner ring 1 1/16 inches. Then confirm that PROFESSIONAL SURVEYOR sits in the lower ring and that your name and certificate number match your license.
Next, sign and date across a test impression to make sure the signature stays legible over the printed text. Finally, check that LICENSED and KANSAS both appear in full.

Can the lower ring read PROFESSIONAL LAND SURVEYOR?
The regulation's wording for the lower ring is PROFESSIONAL SURVEYOR. Adding LAND produces a legend the regulation does not list, so order the two-word form.
Is an embossed seal on its own acceptable?
Yes. Kan. Admin. Regs. 66-6-1(a) names the embossed seal as one of three accepted forms, alongside the rubber stamp and the digital seal.
Does the date also go across the seal?
Yes. The signing rule sends the date over the impression too, not just your signature.
Is there any size tolerance on the rings?
The regulation states one figure per ring, 1 5/8 inches and 1 1/16 inches, and gives no range. Order to those numbers.
