What must appear on an Arkansas geologist seal?
Three things: your name as registered, the name of the state, and the legend Registered Professional Geologist. A registrant holding a specialty certification uses Certified (sub-specialty) Geologist instead, filling the parenthetical with that specialty, under Ark. Code Ann. § 17-32-310(a).

Is a seal required for Arkansas geologists?
Buying one is permissive, but using one is not. Section 17-32-310(a) says a registrant may purchase a seal once the certificate issues, and subsection (b) then requires qualifying documents to be signed and impressed with it. Once you issue geologic work, you need the device.
Approval counts as much as authorship. A document you approve, or one a subordinate prepares under your direction, falls inside the sealing duty just like work you drafted yourself.
Who sets the design, and where may the seal be bought?
The Board has a hand in both. Section 17-32-310(a) describes a seal in the design the Board authorizes, purchased from a source the Board has approved. The artwork and the supplier both trace back to the Arkansas State Board of Registration for Professional Geologists.
Ask the Board for its authorized design and its approved sources before placing an order. The authorized design is also where you settle points the statute leaves open, such as layout and whether a registration number appears.
Does Arkansas set a size or shape for the seal?
No. Section 17-32-310 gives no diameter, shape or proportion, and the Board's published Rules add none. The design the Board authorizes is the only place dimensions can come from.
Match that design. Where it leaves room for choice, keep in mind that the longer specialty legend needs more space than the general one does.
Which devices does Arkansas accept?
The statute does not list any. Section 17-32-310(b) only says qualifying documents are to be impressed with the seal. It never mentions a rubber stamp, a computer image or a digital seal, and the Board's Rules have no seal section to fill that gap.
Because the statute is written around a physical impression, a physical device is the sound starting point. Order it in the Board's authorized design and confirm the source requirement first.
How do signing and dating work in Arkansas?
You sign and seal each qualifying document. Section 17-32-310(b) requires your signature and the seal impression on the same document, and it treats the seal as the mark that shows who is responsible for the work.
The statute is silent on a date, on where the signature goes, and on whether the signature must cross the impression. The Board's Rules add nothing on any of those points.
Which documents must carry the seal?
Any geologic drawing, report or other paper tied to geology practice that you prepare or approve, or that a subordinate produces under your direction, when it goes to another person or into the public record in Arkansas. Sections 17-32-310(b) and 17-32-301(d) frame that duty.
Section 17-32-301(d) supplies the mirror rule. Anyone who is not a registered geologist is barred from applying a registered geologist's seal or stamp to plans, plats, reports or other documents, and from using the title.
Can an Arkansas geologist seal documents electronically?
Chapter 17-32 has no electronic or digital seal provision. It is silent on technology, certificate authorities and any approval process, and the Board's Rules have no seal section at all where such a rule could appear.

What can the Board do about improper sealing?
Section 17-32-311(a) lets the Board act against a certificate by denial, suspension, revocation or a refusal to renew, and improper sealing of documents is one of the listed grounds. Subsection (b) allows that action only after a hearing held under the Arkansas Administrative Procedure Act.
The statute does not say whether a seal must be surrendered or destroyed after revocation, or whether a registration number changes on reinstatement. Renewals themselves run under the Board's Rules.
Do Arkansas geology firms need a seal?
No. Chapter 17-32 contains no firm registration or firm seal provision for geology. Responsibility runs through the individual registrant who prepared or approved the document, including work a subordinate employee did under that registrant's direction.

Does an Arkansas geologist seal need my registration number?
The statute does not require it. Section 17-32-310(a) lists name, state and legend only and leaves the rest to the design the Board authorizes. If that design includes a number, your seal carries it.
Do drafts or preliminary reports need the seal?
The statute has no carve-out for drafts or preliminary versions. The duty attaches to geologic documents you prepare or approve for another person's use or delivery, or for public record, so a draft that leaves your office for either purpose falls within the statute's words.
Can a nonresident geologist seal Arkansas work?
Section 17-32-310(b) refers to the seal of a nonresident practicing under the chapter and gives it the same meaning as a registrant's seal: it shows responsibility for the document. The signing and sealing duty is the same.
Can I keep sealing if my registration lapses?
The sections reviewed here do not speak to sealing after a lapse. Section 17-32-311(a) does list improper sealing among the grounds for discipline, and the Board's Rules govern renewal itself.
When can I first buy an Arkansas geologist seal?
