The Key to Professionalism: Complying with Arkansas Landscape Architect Seal Regulations Feature Image

An Arkansas landscape architect seal is built on a pair of concentric circles, the outer 1.5 inches across and the inner 1 inch, and shows your registered name, your registration number, REGISTERED LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT and STATE OF ARKANSAS. Metal impression seals, rubber stamps and printed seals all qualify when the result is legible. This page covers each rule, signing and dating, and what the seal rules leave out.

Arkansas is one row in our landscape architect seal requirements by state table, which sets each jurisdiction's rule side by side.

What must an Arkansas landscape architect seal show?

Four items: the name you are registered under, your license registration number, and the two phrases REGISTERED LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT and STATE OF ARKANSAS. All four come from ASBALAID Administrative Rules, Section XII.A.

Use the exact form of your name on your registration, and copy the registration number digit for digit. The two phrases are fixed wording, so they are not open to abbreviation. Our overview of Arkansas landscape architect stamp and seal requirements gives more background.

Which documents must carry the seal?

Every original contract document. That includes index sheets and the cover pages that identify which specification pages the seal covers, under the use paragraph of Section XII.A.

The rule names index sheets and cover pages expressly, so the seal, signature and date belong on them as well as on the plan sheets. Our guide to Arkansas landscape architect stamp guidelines has further detail.

Do presentation drawings need the Arkansas seal?

No. Presentation documents are excluded from the sealing requirement in the use paragraph of ASBALAID Administrative Rules, Section XII.A, Use of Landscape Architect's Seal, so they can go out without it.

The exclusion is limited to presentation documents. Once a set becomes original contract documents, the seal, signature and date apply in full.

How do you sign and date a sealed Arkansas document?

All three go on together: the seal, your signature and the date you affix them. ASBALAID Administrative Rules, Section XII.A, Use of Landscape Architect's Seal applies that to original contract documents.

The date is the day you put the seal and signature on the document, not the date the drawing was started. Treat the three as one step, so no sheet leaves your office with the seal but no signature or date.

Which devices and reproduction methods are allowed?

Three formats are named: a metal impression seal, a rubber stamp and a printed seal. On top of that, the rule accepts any reproduction method as long as the result stays legible.

Legibility is the real test, and it applies to whatever method you use. A printed or computer generated seal on a drawing set qualifies on the same footing as a rubber stamp, provided every element can be read. See our post on the Arkansas professional landscape architect stamp for more on the stamp.

What size and shape is the Arkansas landscape architect seal?

Round, drawn as two concentric circles: an outer one 1.5 inches in diameter around an inner one of 1 inch, per ASBALAID Administrative Rules, Section XII.A, Seal Design Requirements. Both figures are fixed, so the seal is not a size you pick.

The larger circle sets the outside of the seal and the smaller one sits inside it, leaving a ring a quarter inch wide on every side. When you measure a proof, check both circles, not only the outer edge. Our post on Arkansas landscape architect stamp design covers layout choices.

How does Arkansas handle electronic files?

Through a release legend, not a signature technology. The use paragraph of Section XII.A deals with electronic files through that legend rather than by naming a digital signing method.

The wording of that legend is set in the rule and is not reproduced on this page, so take it from Section XII.A itself. No certificate standard or signing software is named in the sources read for this page.

What do the Arkansas seal rules say about a lapsed registration?

Nothing. The seal sections do not address lapse, and they do not say whether a seal must be surrendered, per ASBALAID Administrative Rules, Section XII.A (silent as to lapse and surrender).

That silence is limited to the seal sections read for this page. It is not a statement that a lapsed registration leaves you free to seal; it means the seal rules themselves do not speak to it.

What should you send with an Arkansas seal order?

Your name exactly as registered and your license registration number. The two legend phrases and the 1.5 inch and 1 inch circles are fixed by Section XII.A, so you confirm them on the proof rather than choose them.

Then pick the format: a metal impression seal, a rubber stamp, or both. For a wider view of what is available, see our page on Arkansas landscape architect seals and stamps.

How do you check an Arkansas impression before use?

Stamp a test sheet and measure both circles against 1.5 inches and 1 inch. Read your name, your registration number and both legend phrases, and confirm each one is legible.

Then sign and date the test sheet the way you will on a contract document, so you can see all three items together and confirm there is room for them.

Frequently asked questions

Can a computer generated seal replace a rubber stamp?

Yes. A printed format is named alongside the metal impression and the rubber stamp, and any legible reproduction method is accepted, so a computer generated seal qualifies if every element reads clearly.

Is a 1.75 inch or 2 inch seal acceptable in Arkansas?

No. The rule fixes the circles at 1.5 inches and 1 inch, so a seal cut to another size does not match it.

Where does the release legend wording come from?

From the use paragraph of Section XII.A, which handles electronic files through that legend. The text is not reproduced on this page, so copy it from the rule itself.

Must I surrender my seal if my registration lapses?

The seal sections do not say. Section XII.A is silent on both lapse and surrender.

Does my signature have to cross the seal?

The rule as read for this page asks for the seal, signature and date together on the document and states no placement for the signature.

With your registered name and number ready, order from our Arkansas stamps and seals collection and check both circle sizes on the proof before production.
